Adventure Learning Centre (ALC), located on a 3 acre facility in association with over 100 acres of upland forest and wetland crown lands, focuses on providing Bahamian school students an exciting science-based educational learning experience where Christian principles and spiritual guidelines are integrated into the curriculum throughout the day. Staff shares the love of Jesus with the students and challenges each of them to put his or her trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior.
OUTDOOR ADVENTURES (Grades K2-12)
Since 1993, ALC’s field trip programme has provided Bahamian students with the opportunity to visit our facility for a dynamic, hands-on, and unforgettable educational adventure. This programme is fully endorsed by the Bahamian Ministry of Education as a valuable experience for students that supplements and complements the National Curriculum.
PLANETARIUM ADVENTURES (Grades 1-9)
The planetarium has a 24 foot dome with a newly installed Discovery Dome full dome projection system and surround sound audio.
The planetarium can seat approximately 65 students and currently presents full dome movies on astronomy related topics for students in Grades 1-9. It also presents a programme called "The Star of Bethlehem" which overviews possible scenarios for the star that directed the wise men towards the Christ child. Soon we will be able to show an IMAX film called "The Grand Canyon Adventure" which transports the viewer on an amazing rafting trip down the grand canyon. It is narrated by Robert Redford highlighting a water conservation message. These teaching programmes present students with the awesome wonders of creation which exemplify the greatness of our loving God.
Adventure Clubs exist to provide a fun, educational, and inspirational weekly after-school club for students in Grade 5 and 6.
Each club provides members with a laboratory to discover Christian discipleship as a 5th or 6th grader. An intentional variety of skills and concepts are taught during club sessions to encourage each club member to discover, pursue, and use their God-given gifts and talents for the glory of God and the benefit of the community. Scripture is taught each week with a challenge to memorize the passage of the week.
Activities taught in Adventure Clubs correspond with the gifts, talents and resources of current staff and volunteers at the Adventure Learning Centre. Activities we have offered include team challenges, outdoor games, animal encounters, crafts, dance, music, karate, drama, and science experiments.
The ALC holds an annual Summer Day Camp for 5 to 12 year old children for 6 weeks, typically starting the last week of June and ending by the first week in August. Activities include a required bible class, and the camper can then elect classes from a choice of sports, dance, crafts, animals and science. We utilize our animal petting farm, nature centre, playground, nature trails, wetlands, and planetarium to the fullest extent to share God's love with campers and each other. The teacher/councelor to camper ratio is approximately one to five which provides a safe and intimate Christian environment in a super fun setting.
Summer Day Camp 2016 theme is “Circus” from June 19th-July 28th from 9 am to 4 pm for ages 5-12. The price is $90 per week and includes hot lunch and field trips. You may drop off your camper at 8 am and aftercare is available after 4 pm for a fee.
